'Most important Century Hypothesis' summary

Open in Google Docs

The 'Most important Century Hypothesis'[1] claims that:

  1. The far future is radically unfamiliar and could come much faster than we think.
  2. AI might drive a productivity explosion this century that could advance AI even further and lead to a long-lasting, galaxy-wide civilization that could be anything from radically utopian to radically dystopian.
  3. We can shape this transition and massively impact huge numbers of future people - if we can make sense of the situation enough to find helpful actions. But we aren't ready for this.
  4. Despite these seemingly 'too wild to take seriously' claims, there are many reasons for us living in wild times, and we should be ready for anything.
